The Margaret River region stretches 160km from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin, scattered with towns such as the delightful coastal village of Augusta, the surfing meccas of Prevelly and Gracetown, the pretty little town of Cowaramup (otherwise known as Cow Town), and of course the country township of Margaret River itself. The coastline offers amazing seascapes and rugged cliffs, often huge swells that attract surfers from around the world, whales during certain times of the year, and of course some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, many quite deserted and untouched. The Margaret River region is also world-renowned for its wine, with the region home to over 160 wineries. The countryside is scattered with grapes vines and many wineries offer magnificent restaurant facilities. Gourmet food is a natural accompaniment to the fabulous wines and the Margaret River region is considered one of the best destinations for fresh food lovers. Margaret River region is the most popular holiday destination in Western Australia and hosts a number of annual events including the Leeuwin Concert and the Gourmet Escape, both of which attract visitors from around the world. Surfers Point at Prevelly, at the mouth of the Margaret River itself, was the set for the surf scenes in the movie Drift.
