Manjimup is at the heart of the Southern Forest region and has a long history as a logging and sawmill town and today over 80% of the Manjimup Shire is State Forest or Conservation Reserve. The Shire of Manjimup is made up of four main towns being Manjimup, Pemberton, Northcliffe and Walpole. Today Manjimup is the centre of a thriving fruit and vegetable industry, and is the largest mainland producer of black truffles which are now exported around the world.
